Die Sage erzaehlt, dass Cleopatra einen Sproessling auch Jericho holen liess und diesen dann bei Heliopolis fuer ihren Palast einsetzen liess.
Die nahegelegene Kirche wurde unter Ibrahim Pascha etwa 1660 durch den Bau einer Moschee zerstoert, 1706 berichtet Hyppolit Vichensky von eu=iner neuen Kirche in Matariya.
Bei Timm - Das christliche-koptische Aegypten in arabischer Zeit, pp. 1613-1620 ist eine sehr ausfuehrliche Bibliographie angefuehrt, besonders zu empfehlen sind die Artikel von Feddan in BSAC 10- 1946 und Meinardus in Studia Orientalia Christiana, Cairo, 1962

"Jüngere Berichte entstanden zumeist im Zusammenhang mit Wallfahrten zu den beiden Stätten, an denen die Heilige Familie auf ihrer Flucht nach Ägypten Rast gemacht haben soll: el-Matarije mit dem „Baum der Maria (Schagarat Mariam)“ und Mostorod."

ich brauch eure Hilfe. :-D Bin auf der Suche nach Informationen über "Shagarat Mariam" bei Kairo. Den Bildern nach zu urteilen müsste es eine Zufluchtstätte für Christen gewesen sein. ................
