"Dear all:
My male Shirazi [Katzenart, Anm. DJ] is in desperate shape and won't allow me to sleep due to his constant and loud cries. If any of you are looking to mate your female cat, please contact me. He will make cute kittens!"
Antwort:
"please consider spaying your Shirazi instead of contributing to the
overpopulation of cats in Egypt! All us individuals who work consistently
for caring for the unwanted, starving, tortured and beaten cats and kittens
for no financial support but our own, are thankful to everyone trying to
work against this rapid spread of cat reproduction out of control!"
Und die Fragestellerin antwortet ziemlich ignorant darauf zurück:
"Hi. I have considered doing that, but I just don't think it is right
because he would make cute babies. So I thought I'd check with the list if
there was anyone interested. Both my cats were strays, so I know how it is."
Daraufhin antwortet eine Tierhilfsorganisation aus Kairo:
"In Response to the girl requesting a female cat to mate with their household Tom cat:
At the current time, the EMRO (Egyptian Mau Rescue Organization) Shelter is filled to capacity with "cute" cats and kittens, for which we trying very hard to find homes. We were recently contacted by four different people stating they have "cute little kittens," would like for us to in-take because the mother cat was run over by cars, the Egyptian Police shot them, or they were either poisoned or beaten/strangled to death by the neighbors. We had to tell them that the shelter, currently, is out of room for additional in-takes.
Many of these unwanted kittens are always found thrown into trash bins, or close to the trash bins, for the sanitation workers to "throw away". Many of these "cute kittens" die slowly of hunger. Many of these "cute kittens" are found by street "children" and are used as balls in baseball (their skulls are fractured, their spines broken, they lie bleeding and broken in the streets), are tortured, or their limbs cut off because these "children" find it funny.
As an example, two years ago a kitten was found struggling in the pool of the Gezira Golf Club. It was surrounded by blood, and when it was fished out half-dead, it was discovered that its hind legs had been brutally severed. It was rumored that a six-year-old boy had done this. However, it was also found that his mother hated cats, and it was very strongly suspected that she was the one who cut through the kitten's bones to sever its legs. She then told her son to throw the kitten into the water. Surprisingly, the boy threw the severely injured kitty into the pool and not into the lake or river that the woman had in mind.
EMRO is filled to capacity with both cats and kittens, and many of them are adopted in other countries instead of in their own homeland. We ask (beg) for donations, we URGE people to spay and neuter their pets, and all of the cats that we intake are spayed and neutered, with only a very few exceptions for foreigners.
Yet, people continue to breed their pets with Absolutely NO IDEA of finding good, safe homes for the kittens to be born. They say it is "wrong", that it is "an act of God", and that they will be taken care of. But just WHO takes care of these unwanted newborns? Overburdened shelters like EMRO, ESMA, and other shelters. Yet, the people who breed and refused to spay and neuter DO NOT provide assistance of ANY KIND to these shelters. They just leave the hard work and responsibility to the people of the shelter. They are not even given a donation at the time of intake!
Mariam you state you know "how it is". Do you know the Truth, or do you hide from it? I find it a paradox that you would choose "I believe that it is better to tell the truth than to lie" because it is very obvious, to many people here, that you really do not. You say the words, but your actions are completely the opposite.
You want the truth? I can send you pictures of the abuse pets, tortured (I can even send you a YouTube link where about four young "boys" pour gasoline on a small white puppy and light it on fire. They all LAUGH as this poor little animal tries to run from the pain, but it can only roll around, crying out in agony, until the flames go out. He lies there on the ground as the "boys" continue to laugh and film as the puppy whimpers in pain... no Human comes to help him, no Human comes to give him comfort.
Have you picked out and called your friends to see if they will give homes to your "cute" kittens, Mariam? Why don't you come and visit EMRO to see just what I am talking about. Why don't you come over and donate your time or even a small donation? Why don't you come over and see the truth for yourself? If EMRO is too far, I am sure there are many shelters who would welcome your money for food for all the "cute kittens" found on the streets or surrendered by their "Owners" because the kittens are no longer "cute".
This is the Truth and this is Reality, Mariam. Wake up and become part of the Solution, and Not part of the Problem!
If any student on this thread finds that my logic or proof are wrong, I welcome their feedback. I also welcome the Moderator to let me know if I have crossed the line, but I believe I have not. This overpopulation problem is a continued epidemic, too many animals are abused and suffering - WE Do Have The Power To Change This! Unfortunately, there continue to be too many people who choose to remain "asleep" because the word "responsibility" presents a very heavy burden. They continue to "just go through the motions," without thought, without caring, without concern for anyone or anything else.
My thanks to those students who responded with maturity and intelligence to the original email. Thank You for your suggestions, and Thank You for Caring.
It is easier for a blind, illiterate person to spell "responsibility" than for some "normal" people to accept it."

salam
