"Mallawi Museum Update: Unfortunately, all objects which were not stolen were completely burnt last night mounting for around 49 objects including a mummy. Currently, the number of looted objects are 1050. The Ministry of Antiquities (MSA) is announcing a campaign to retrieve the objects and offering compensation for those who will return the objects and no police follow-up. People who would want to deliver the objects should take them to al-Ashmounein storehouse and make sure to take a police record of the delivery and a copy of the identity card of the person who receives the object. People who are unable to go to al-Ashmounein can contact these two persons of the MSA: Mr. Ahmed Askalani: 01236903831/01003609440 and Mr. Usama Talaat: 01009673878. Or you can contact our campaign's number: 01144409974 and we will try to offer assistance."

Über die EEF Mailing List kam auch gerade folgende Twittermeldung von Monica Hanna:

"The Mallawi museum that was looted yesterday and has 49 remaining
objects of which mostly are the wooden sarcophagi is currently on fire
that has arrived from the nearby police station that was set ablaze
earlier."

Damit schwindet auch die letzte Hoffnung, dass wenigstens die wunderschönen Särge noch gerettet werden könnten.

Das sieht furchtbar aus

Die Plünderer waren mal wieder im Auftrag der Antikenmafia unterwegs - so sehe ich das jedenfalls. Alle Vitrinen leer. Die müssen Kisten und ein großes Fahrzeug dabei gehabt haben, um das alles abzutransportieren. Das sieht nach guter Planung aus. Und das Museum ist auch clever ausgesucht: Klein, schlecht gesichert, mitten in der Stadt. Da lässt sich doch ganz prima ein Tumult inszenieren.

Alleine die verbliebenden Artefakte in dem Museum sind unwiderruflich zerstört.

Das Museum hatten Hanne und ich uns auch ausgesucht im November zu besichtigen.
Ist ja nun alles, in jeder Hinsicht, hinfällig.

Ich sehe die Bilder fast noch als Lichtblick im Vergleich zu den bisherigen Berichten. Es ist offenbar doch nicht alles restlos verbrannt, es gibt noch 1-2 Sarkophage. Das ist eine Katastrophe, aber ich war wirklich von alles komplett kaputt ausgegangen.

ich dachte zwar auch irgendwie von wegen das was nicht wegzutragen war wurde durch feuer zerstört. dem war zum glück nicht so aber wenn ich mir nur mal die doppelstatue des Pepi-anch-herj-jb und seiner gemahlin ansehen was daraus geworden ist
